Ministries
Here at Gethsemane we are involved in many different ministries, both Inreach, where we take care of ourselves and our spiritual growth; and Outreach, where we help our neighbors and our community. These ministries are financed through both the General Fund and through Designated Donations. 100% of Designated Donations go to the requested charity.
INREACH
Vibrant Faith at Home
At Gethsemane Lutheran, we celebrate many milestones throughout each child's faith journey. According to Vibrant Faith Milestone Ministries, "a faith milestone is a marker along life's journey that says, 'This is something important and God is here too.' Marking a milestone is a Biblically-based, spiritual practice in both home and congregation, which helps all generations recognize God's presence in all of life."
While this ministry is growing at Gethsemane, we currently celebrate these milestones: Baptism, New Bibles to Preschoolers, 3rd Graders, and High School Seniors, First Communion, Confirmation, High School Senior Recognition, Bible Camp, Blessing of the Backpacks, and Mission Trips.
In addition, each Sunday School class attends faith formation classes with parents/guardians each year, which focus on a variety of faith building activities. the classes focus on many topics, ranging from forgiveness to The Lord's Prayer. Many of the classes have a church aspect, where the class will lead the congregation through one part of the worship service. We often use Child in Our Hands curriculum, but also plan to incorporate the Vibrant Faith Milestones Ministries curriculum, which correlates with our mission as a Vibrant Faith Congregation.

WELCA
An easy way to say, "Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America." As women of Gethsemane Lutheran Church, we are an integral part of this organization which is in over 7000 locations in the U.S. and Caribbean with the purpose of service, study, advocacy, fellowship and more. It embraces all kinds of ministries that support our mission of mobilizing women to act boldly in their faith. We are celebrating the 25th year of the WELCA. At Gethsemane we have five Circles that meet monthly for Bible Study, fellowship, and service: 1. Elizabeth-Grace at 9:30 a.m. second Tuesday 2. Faith at 1:00 p.m. second Tuesday 3. Lydia at 1:30 p.m. second Thursday 4. Mary at 10:00 a.m. first Tuesday 5. Sarah at 8:00 a.m. second Saturday Each circle has a representative that meets six times a year as a General Board member. The General Board is guided by the decisions of our Circle members. General Board Chairperson is Louise Peterson, Treasurer is Nicole Borgerson-Burge, and Secretary is Joan Vobejda. We are responsible for our various mission projects which include overseas, baptism, and graduation quilts, the church prayer chains, Bible studies, serving for our member funerals, church fund raisers, summer coffee after church, and Lutheran World Relief Mission Projects. We provide financial support to our youth activities, missionaries, our faith chests for the children's program and setting up communion for designated Sundays of the month. We support many programs within out church and community. WELCA Gethsemane is an active an strong part of our church. If you have an questions, ask a Circle member or General Board officer. Many hands make light work!" |

Community Pantry
Community Pantry is the Baldwin Community's name for the local food shelf. Many people use this resource to either augment their food budget or as a support until they get back on their feet. Gethsemane designates one Sunday a month as "Food Shelf Sunday," where church members bring food items to donate. Cash donations to the Community Pantry are used to buy milk and other perishables.
